Join us in the mountains of West Virginia for the inaugural Christ the Savior Music Symposium — a intensive liturgical music workshop for singers, chanters, and choir directors in English-speaking Orthodox parishes.

Supported by faculty from the Synodal School of Liturgical Music (SSLM), this symposium offers deep immersion in the liturgical music tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church, with a particular emphasis on the practical, theological, and cultural aspects of chant in the Russian Orthodox Tradition, with particular emphasis on the use of the English language.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Two full workshop days (June 12–13) following a travel and fellowship day on June 11.
  • Hands-on rehearsals leading to Friday night Vespers and Matins (i.e. Vigil).
  • Saturday morning Divine Liturgy sung by our symposium participants, followed by a pilgrimage to nearby Holy Cross Monastery for a tour and chant performance in the new monastery catholicon.
  • Breakout sessions and roundtable discussions on topics including:
    • Liturgical music selection
    • Composition and adaptation in English
    • Decorum and performance
    • Cultural continuity in diaspora communities

This is not a retreat or conference — it is a working symposium, designed to help participants grow in musical competency, leadership, and liturgical understanding, grounded in the tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church
